Hold yourself accountable: Top Tips

Here are our tips for holding yourself accountable and doing what you say you’re going to do.

Use a block schedule

Creating a calendar in which you schedule all your tasks is a great way to accomplish your goals. Whether you want to plan your strategy or work on your website, blocking out time in your schedule is a helpful way to plough through the work.

Morning routines

Whether it’s meditation, exercise or preparing healthy food, it’s important to regularly do the things that help your overall sense of wellbeing. This will nurture you and help you feel psychologically prepared for doing the big chunks of work throughout the rest of the day. Make sure you factor these into your schedule, too.

Keep on track

Do you ever feel like you don’t have enough time in the day? It might be worth tracking your productivity for a couple of days and see where you are wasting time. Write down what you are doing in 15-minute blocks and then review at the end of the day. Tracking your habits can really help you become aware of how you spend your time. Then you can take action to do things differently, if required.

Pomodoro technique

This is by far the best time management tool I know. Look it up and give it a go. Basically, you chunk your time into 25 minutes of focused activity with no interruptions. You do this four times with short breaks between and then a more extended break after four pomodoro. Give it a go and see how much you fly through.

Find a buddy

If you get stuck (which is normal, by the way), find an accountability buddy who will share the journey with you. You can call on each other when you are struggling, and if you know you are supporting them, you are more likely to stick to your plan as well.

Here’s the bottom line: no matter how many goals you set for your photography business, you have to do the work to reach them.
